Two hearts on a postcard, and a morning mail Two hearts on a postcard, to the county jail
Little pencil drawings, made by two uncertain hands Addressed by the postman, at a little girl's command
A year or so ago, I punished my two little girls For some childish mischief they had done
I told them they must learn to live right in this big old world To never be unfair to anyone
Then later on that day, I bought two little candy hearts With teardrops in my eyes, I hurried home
I said, this is a symbol of the love in Daddy's heart And I still love you, though you have done wrong
Then I got into trouble somewhere down along the line And I can see that they found out something
Oh, I guess somebody must have told those little girls of mine
Cause two hearts on a postcard came today
Two hearts on a postcard, and a morning mail
Two hearts on a postcard
To the county jail
Little pencil drawings, made by two uncertain hands Addressed by the postman, at a little girl's command
