Two hearts on a postcard in the morning mail
Two hearts on a postcard to the county jail
Little pencil drawings made by two uncertain hands
Addressed by the postman at a little girl's command
A year or so ago I punished my two little girls
For some childish mischief they had done
I told them they must learn to live right in this big old world
And I told them they must learn to live right in this big old world
And never be unfair to anyone
Then later on that day I bought two little candy hearts
With teardrops in my eyes I hurried home
I said this is a symbol of the love in my own heart
And I still love you and I still love you
Though you have done wrong
Then I got into trouble somewhere down along the line
And I can see that they found out some way
I guess somebody must have told those little girls of mine
Cause two hearts on a postcard came today
Two hearts on a postcard in the morning mail
Two hearts on a postcard to the county jail
Little pencil drawings made by two uncertain hands
Addressed by the postman at a little girl's command
