King of Saturday Night's been around for a while.I wrote that song.We recorded a demo of it at Jess's housewhen he was living in Austin proper.I want to say that I forgot cymbalswhen we recorded drums on that song, too.Oh, really? Was there no cymbals?I can't remember. There was a weird quirk in the demo, but the demo ended up taking a life of its own,and it came out really good. That one had to blow the dust off of it.It's a good little song. It's fun.Jess and I both really love to singand take turns at the mic, giving Mark a break in our live showsto catch his breath.I don't know. It's probably an attempt at some sort of bastardizationof a ZZ Top song. It's got an open tuning. It's barely written, to be honest with you.I didn't think too much about the lyrics. They just kind of came and went under the paper. The antithesis of life ain't fair. It's not going to win. It's not going to win any awardsat the Songwriters' Convention, which we all go and are card-carrying members of.But it's a lot of fun to play, and it really does give you a glimpseinto where we were like six years agowhen we were kicking around in Austinearly on at the Honky Tonks, you know. You have a tendency to write materialthat you feel like is missing in your set,and I think that that one probably came out of that.I think you're being self-deprecating.I'm not.It fits really nicely into the pantheonof kind of weekend, anthems, you know. And it's become a really fun song to perform livenow that we actually have crowds. We used to perform that in front of 10, 12 people.Man, I love singing that songbecause there are certain songsthat make you really feel like a band, especially live, you know. And any time you get that momentto go and share a microphoneand just kind of get lost in the rhythmand just playing.
