The day before you came
(Khi em cha c anh)
Must have left my house at eight because I always do
(Ngy no chng th, 8 gi sng l em ra khi nh)
My train, I'm certain, left the station just when it was due
(Em bit chuyn tu ca em gi l chuyn bnh)
I must have read the morning paper going into town
(i vo ph (ht nhng mt ting), em c vi t bo)
And having gotten through the editorial, no doubt I must have frowned
(Ci bi x lun cht tit ln no cng lm em nhn nh!)
I must have made my desk around a quarter after nine
(D th, 9 gi mt khc em cng phi vo vic)
With letters to be read, and heaps of papers waiting to be signed
(Mt ng th phi c, mt ng giy phi k)
I must have gone to lunch at half past twelve or so, the usual place, the usual bunch
(Ph, 12 ri th em i n, vn ch y, vn vi bn y)
And still on top of this I'm pretty sure it must have rained
(V lc no em cng chc chn l tri s ma)
The day before you came
(Ci hi anh cha xut hin )
I must have lit my seventh cigarette at half past two
(Mi 2 ri chiu em ht n iu thuc th by)
And at the time I never even noticed I was blue
(Th m hi em chng h bit l em bun, l tht!)
I must have kept on dragging through the business of the day
(Em c ko l tm thn mnh ngy ny qua ngy khc)
Without really knowing anything, I hid a part of me away
(Em giu mnh i, v em chng thc s bit ci * kh g)
At five I must have left, there's no exception to the rule
(5 gi l em bin ri, chng bao gi c ngoi l c)
A matter of routine, I've done it ever since I finished school
(Ch l vn thi gian biu thi, t hi ht hc em vn lun lm th)
The train back home again, undoubtedly I must have read the evening paper then
(Trn ng v ng nhin em c vi t bo chiu)
Oh yes, I'm sure my life was well within it's usual frame
(Th y, em chc l cuc sng ca em rt n trong ci khung ca n)
The day before you came
(Hi em cha c anh)
Must have opened my front door at eight o'clock or so
(Em v n nh v m ca th 8 gi ti x ri)
And stopped along the way to buy some Chinese food to go
(May l trn ng v em kp thit k qu ba ti vi vi mn Tu bn sn)
I'm sure I had my dinner watching something on TV
(Em chn chng mt mnh trong lc xem TV)
There's not, I think, a single episode of Dallas that I didnt see
(Hnh nh em cha b l mt tp phim Dallas no u)
I must have gone to bed around a quarter after ten
(ng h ch 10h15 l em ln ging (li mt mnh!))
I need a lot of sleep, and so I like to be in bed by then
(Em hay thiu ng lm, nn sm nh th l em i kh ri)
I must have read a while the latest one by Marilyn French or something in that style
(Em cng c mt to trc khi ng, truyn ca Marilyn French hay ci g cng th loi)
It's funny, but I had to sence of living without aim
(Cng bun ci pht, nhng em chng c to khi nim no v chuyn sng khng mc ch c)
The day before you came
(Hi anh cha ti, em th y)
And turning out the light
(Ri em tt n (thi nh!))
I must have yawned and cuddled up for yet another night
(Li mt m na ri, em ngp mt ci di v cun mnh vo gic ng)
And rattling on the roof I must have heard the sound of rain
(V em li nghe thy ting ma ri lch tch trn mi nh)
The day before you came
(Thi k n, em ngh, anh n u)
