What a great song. Still the good old day, Sheryl Crow and Joe Walsh, you'll find it on Threads.
That's Sheryl's brand new album, which is available now. And she had a chance to record with so many
unique and incredible artists, like St. Vincent on a song called Wouldn't Wanna Be Like You. So
Sheryl, tell me about this song. The song Wouldn't Wanna Be Like You is an indictment on what was
happening last year in America when we watched the truth be discarded as something that was
inconvenient. And the song is a song I wrote with Jeff Trott. I wasn't exactly sure what I was going
to do with it, but it was a song that I could not not write. It was just one of those moments where
I felt like I don't even know what to say to my kids as I'm raising them and telling them that
lying is not okay. The truth matters. And yet what we're watching every day on the news and what
we're reading everywhere on the internet are not true.
not only non-truths or lies, but lies used to convince we as citizens to commit to this or to
that with just absolute lies. And that's coming from the highest office in the land. And so to
me, it seems extremely unforgivable. And so I wrote this song. And when it came time to put the song
out, I just felt like there's just something missing from it. I can't be the only one that
feels this way. And I had gotten to know Annie Clark of St. Vincent through doing the Lilith Fair
a few years ago. And I love this chick. I mean, she is totally convicted in every way, shape and
form to her art and to her mission and being authentic and telling the truth and being out
there and speaking her mind. And she's just wicked smart. So I called her and said, I'm going to send
you this song. And I want you to tell me if it would be something you would be into singing or
playing on. And she responded literally two hours later.
After I'd sent it to her with two words that were, yeah. And that is St. Vincent right there.
That is her totally. I mean, she was all over it. She took it into the studio and she played
all these tracks. She added vocals and high vocals and harmonies and whispering. And she just made it
into something that was absolutely undeniable. And we put it out. And because of who she is,
because of her following, it wound up getting played at radio.
And probably to a certain extent because of what it was saying. But even English radio was playing
it. And I think that's largely because of her presence on it and the fact that it was just
the perfect marriage. Even if you've never heard a St. Vincent, I think you are going to love this
song with Sheryl Crow. It's Wouldn't Want to Be Like You off of Threads, which is Sheryl's brand
new album out now.
