a similar situation to uh getting common on the play this record was the roland record and
i i guess you could say it's similar because mastermind dj mastermind was an anr at our
indie label at the time the anr and was arranging all of this all of these cool opportunities i mean
you know it's not like anybody that we were going for was working for free
you know let's let's set that record straight but at the same time if you were coming out of
canada they wanted to make sure it seemed like i was being scrutinized like you know you had to be
and we sent the demo
of roland with my verse and the chorus on it to ace and oc well mastermind did and
and they responded with bright lights you know and then came the big city i land in new york
we we come down there with the two inch tape
roll it up and wait and
and
we were there on time and you know get about an hour and an ace shows up and i'll never forget it
they both said the same thing and he said went to my manager chase first and said what's up sock
and he's like no no that's up and the first thing he said was i thought you'd be a lot bigger
you know because your voice the the timbre of your voice and i said well maybe one day i don't know i
don't know i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't know
know what i said i can't even remember i was so um in all like a deer in headlights when you meet
your heroes and give it about another 45 minutes to an hour and in pops oc and it's the exact same
reaction uh you didn't think it would be me and once we got past all the pleasantries
the studio session was actually probably one of them
my one of the biggest like learning curves or turning curves i should say because i was able to
lay my verse again and then allow them to lay their verses and then we all critiqued each other
and did them again and again maybe about two three four takes each to make sure that it was right and
it was again that peer um acceptance that again gave gave me the
the courage to not only finish that record but to keep working until today and have faith in
yourself the concept is is is amazing and little x was supposed to shoot the video and you know we
never got that we never made that happen but everybody that i've mentioned was a part of the
process and it turned out to be amazing
