In our sunshine state of Queensland, nature's beauties do abound
From the Gulf and Taborlands, up north, south to the Darling Downs
But my stories are the mountain, though a legend brought to shame
In our famous glasshouse mountains, Tipperigargan is its name
Tipperigargan, Tipperigargan, you look such a stately sight
As you tower above the highway, thousands pass you day and night
Oh, I wonder if there's many know your legend just like me
As you stand in sombre silence, sadly watching out to sea
Now, Tipperigargan was the father of the tribe throughout the land
And before you knew it, he was the father of the tribe
The war was the maiden fair who'd given him her hand
They had many, many children, dreamtime legends do recall
Canaran was the eldest, a warrior straight and tall
Tipperigargan, Tipperigargan, taught his children wrong from right
And kept watch for many dangers that might threaten day or night
Then one day, Tipperigargan
Tipperigargan knew a great flood there would be
For he'd seen a mighty rising of the waters out to sea
Said Tipperigargan to Canaran, help Mother Beewar get away
And I will follow with him, Gun Gun, and the others now at play
But Canaran proved a coward and went safely on his own
And left his mother there to face the dangers all alone
Now, Tipperigargan, Tipperigargan, he grew angry at this sight
And with Nala Nala in his hand, he struck Canaran in his flight
Tipperigargan's shame was heavy, had a son so cowardly
And vowed to look upon him never more, but just face out to sea
So if you pass our glasshouse mountains on the highway or by train
In the west, Crookman, you'll see a man named Tipperigargan
Is at the edge of the ocean, that man's name is Canaran
Seems to hang his head in shame
Tipperigargan keeps his promise, and looks on his son no more
But keeps on facing eastward to the mighty ocean shore
Tipperigargan, Tipperigargan, you look such a stately sight
As you tower above the highway, thousands pass you day and night
Oh, I wonder if there's many know you're a man named Canaran
a legend just like me
as you stand in somber silence
sadly watching out
to sea
