We call Paul Overstreet and say,
hey, we need some songs for my new album.
Let's write some songs.
So I go out to Paul's house and we sit down
and we try to write a song for a while.
And we wrote something, it was pretty cool.
And he said,
no,
let me take you out to the studio
and I'll play you a few things.
And I said, sounds good to me.
You gotta remember,
this is a guy I gave my cassette tape to
through a chain link fence.
Okay,
15 years before that.
So the fact that he was saying,
let's go out to my studio
and I'll play you a few songs for your new album.
I had to change my pants.
I mean, I was just, I was so excited about this.
So we went out there and the first song he plays me
was this song and it was so cool.
It was just funny and just so witty
and had a cool little groove to it.
And I said, oh man, that's awesome.
I'll take it.
Can I have that song?
He said, no, I just wanted to play you that
because Blake Shelton just put it on hold.
And I thought, well, man, that is so cool.
No,
but let me tell you what,
it was a good thing that Blake Shelton put it on hold
because it went on to be a big old Blake Shelton hit.
And I would love it,
Paul,
if you would sing us some beach.
I rewrite things until they finally get recorded
and they're out there because I'm always second guessing
things that I do.
And once they're recorded and they're out there,
I just figured that we did the things right
that we needed to do and leave it alone.
Driving down the interstate,
running 30 minutes late,
singing my beret to fill the mind of my own.
Some foreign car driving dude with a road rage attitude,
pulled up beside me talking on his cell phone.
He started yelling at me like I did something wrong.
He flipped me the bird and then he was gone some place,
somewhere.
There's a big umbrella,
cast a shade over an empty chair.
Palm trees are growing and warm breezes blowing.
I can picture myself right there
on some beach,
somewhere.
Well,
I circle that parking lot trying to find a
spot just big enough I could park my old truck.
Some guy with a big cigar was getting into his
car and I stopped and I waited for him to back up.
From out of nowhere a Mercedes Benz came cruising up
and whipped right in some beach,
somewhere.
Well, there's nowhere to go
when you got all day to get there.
There's cold margaritas and hot senoritas
smiling with long dark hair on some beach,
somewhere.
Well, I sat in that waiting room.
It seemed like all afternoon.
The nurse said,
well, I sat in that waiting room.
It seemed like all afternoon.
Nurse finally said, the doc's ready for you.
You're not going to feel a thing.
We'll give you some Novocain.
That tooth will be fine in a minute or two.
Then he stuck that needle down in my gum
and he started drilling before I was numb.
Some beach,
somewhere.
There's a beautiful sunset burning up the atmosphere.
There's music and dancing and couples romancing
in the salty evening air on some beach,
somewhere.
On some beach,
somewhere.
