Site 1. Mount Pitt is the second highest peak on Norfolk Island.However, it is the only one accessible by public access roads.From here you have a stunning panoramic view of the southeastern side of the island.You can spot Burnt Pine, Cascade Bay, Kingston, as well as Nepean and Phillip Islands.From here it is a 500 metre walk to the highest summit of Mount Bates.Mount Bates is home to an old World War II radar.In World War II, Norfolk Island was the strategic airbase for the Allied forces.The ruins of the rusted radar can be seen in the pit near the top.Look out for the interpretive signage for more information.Interpretive signage can also be found on Mount Pitt.
