Brett Young's sophomore album, it is out now. And we have the pleasure of talking to Brett about all the songs on Ticket to LA, the new album. And we're also getting to play all the songs. And I love this next song because it also has kind of a groovy feel to it. But first, real quickly, you and I, we had been talking about the fact that you definitely have some of your soul sound on this album. In fact, you kind of wanted to sprinkle a little bit more in there. But you want people to know that this isn't an entirely soul album and that you haven't lost the essence of what makes your music Brett Young music. There needed to be something in production that was a little bit different. Not so different that the fans that I've earned with album one felt alienated, but different enough that it didn't feel like album one 2.0.And I sat with Dan Huff for a while and we talked about it. And he had a couple of great ideas. And the one that I think was the winner was he goes,He goes, you grew up listening to soul music and R&B. He goes, let's just put a little of that flair in the production. And I think that even if you don't realize you're hearing it, it's kind of tucked in there, but it's driving the song. It's got this R&B flair. And I think we basically made another Brett Young record, but we just put a little R&B twist on it.And you can definitely hear that R&B twist in this next song. Let's talk about Reason to Stay.I think that the coolest part about Reason to Stay is kind of the role reversal. I think we're in a place in society where it's totally acceptable now.Acceptable is the wrong word. It's more common now. But back in the day, it was like wife stays home and takes care of the kids in the house. Husband goes to work and it's wife going, honey, I wish you didn't have to go to work today. And I love that it's the opposite. I love that it's the dude going like he can sleep in if he wants to, but he's waking up so he can see her before she gets up.And then he's bummed that she has to leave and go to work. And he's trying to come up with cute, flirty things to do to convince her to stay rather than go.I mean, I just I love everything I do is kind of rooted in vulnerability. And I love how vulnerable.A guy would have to be to take on that role. Honey, I'm gonna miss you. Please don't go. I just love that. I think that that's extremely masculine to be able to be that open and vulnerable. And I love it. And I think it's also super cute. And I wrote that one with Jimmy John and Emily and Jimmy was already playing that lick on the guitar. And I was like, it reminded me of Stand By Me. Just had that vibe to it already. And so the story matched the vibe of the music perfectly. And I don't know, sometimes there are songs that just make you feel good. I think you can actually do that. You can actually tune out the lyric to Reason to Stay and it would still make you feel good. And then you start paying attention to the lyric and it matches the way that the song is making you feel. I mean, I think it's just the most feel good song on the record.I would probably agree. This song, it does. It has just kind of a certain sway to it, almost a Motown vibe. This is Reason to Stay off Ticket to L.A., Brett Young's latest album, and it's on Big Machine Radio.
