This is Big Machine Radio. I am Becca and welcome to the Sheryl Crow Threads album release special.
You are in for something very special. We've got Sheryl in the studio with us. She has created this
incredible album full of collaborations with some of the biggest names in music and some of the
brightest young stars. And we're going to go through every track and hear the stories behind
the songs. Sheryl has so many great stories. And the first thing I wanted to ask you,
the album is called Threads. And I understand that you had been doing some recording with
Kris Kristofferson. And that is kind of what led you to want to make this album with some of your
heroes and some of your peers. So tell me how it worked, because there are so many incredible names
on here. Did you have a list of people you wanted to work with? Did the songs kind of guide you to
who you wanted to record with? Well, the process did start with Kris Kristofferson. And after I
recorded with him, I called Steve Jordan and said, I want more of this. I want more of,
the special moments that change the molecules. And he and I talked about what that would look
like. And I said, well, I don't know exactly what that's going to look like, except for
I'll write songs. I'll do the songs by the people that matter to me. I'll write with people when
there's an opportunity to do that. And it was all of that. I wrote with Joe Walsh for the record.
I did a Bob Dylan song because I love him so much with Jason Isbell. I did a George Harrison song
because not only was he a monumental figure, but he was a monumental figure. And I wrote a song
in my creative life, but also the song felt necessary to record for my children and for
the people of their generation. And I asked Eric to play on it and asked Brandy to sing on it
because she's a mom. And there were just so many things that were threads that just wove through
the making of this record and that presented themselves. Well, there are so many amazing
songs on this album. I say, let's not waste any time. We're going to start with track one. It's
Prove You Wrong. Now, this is you, Maren Morris and Stevie Nicks. So tell us about
getting the three of you together for this song. Prove You Wrong was such a joy. I knew I wanted to
have Stevie Nicks on this record. She's been a huge inspiration for me since I was really young.
And then I got to meet her a few years later at a Grammy's party and wound up working with her and
wound up getting to produce her and tour with her. And above all, she's just a remarkable woman and
an incredible, fully realized artist. And so I knew I wanted to bring Stevie in on something.
And so I wrote this song really kind of with her in mind.
I also wanted to sort of bring in somebody I felt like was maybe the next generation of a Stevie
Nicks, Sheryl Crow, and that's Maren Morris. I mean, Maren Morris, I feel like has that
incredible *** appeal, but also that strength that Stevie has and has always had. And it was
just a perfect marriage to get the both of them on this song that is very much in both of their
wheelhouses. And it's fun to listen to. I love this song because there's a bit of
sass in there. And I mean, you've got three powerhouse women on it. It is Stevie Nicks,
Maren Morris.
And Sheryl Crow off her brand new album Threads, which is available now.
