Moses went to Pharaoh, we slaves are going away.
Pharaoh was awfully angry, he said,
Moses, you're going away.
Moses led Hebrews to desert,
went up by mountain to pray.
But Hebrews made golden idol,
now hear what God had to say.
God said, now listen, Moses,
those people have to obey.
Moses said,
leave my people,
Lord,
or take my life away.
On through wild land country,
hunger, thirst along the way,
but pillar of fire at nighttime,
cloud to lead by day.
Out of rock came water,
manna down from on high,
but Moses made bronze serpent,
so people wouldn't die.
Land of milk and honey,
resting place through come what may,
chosen people's wandering end,
hallelujah for this day.
