Children are supposed to smile while grown-up people frown.
We're supposed to be so full of joy
when there's so much gloom around.
Children must be sweet and kind.
Grown-ups say we're bad.
We're not allowed to argue like they do when they get mad.
When we hear people talking,
we say the things they say.
Grown-ups look so shocked and say you mustn't talk that way.
We're eager to be learning the things that grown-ups teach.
But it would be much nicer if they'd
practice what they preach.
Someday I'll be a grown-up.
There's things I won't forget,
like I must have my don'ts and do's and the rules that must be kept.
I will check my children,
make sure they're nice and clean,
that they wash from head to toe and healthy in between.
But
there will be a difference in my do's and my don'ts.
I'll never make my children do anything I won't.
They'll know when they're learning the good things that I teach.
It's not just from my talking,
cause I practice what I preach.
When we hear people talking,
we say the things they say.
Grown-ups look so shocked and say you mustn't talk that way.
We're eager to be
learning the things that grown-ups teach.
But it would be much nicer if they'd
practice what they preach.
