In 1986, there was no way for me to stay here.
So I remember getting on the plane at Dorval,
and when I got to Toronto, I was waiting
for a connection flight to Barbados,
and then I was like sitting in the terminal at Pearson,
and I realized that
I couldn't go back to Grenada
because there was no hope for me there,
there was no future for me,
and the kind of work that I wanted to do
would put my life in danger,
so I walked off the plane,
and I just kept walking.
I didn't know where I was going,
I had no clothes,
my luggage
was already checked in for my flight
back to Barbados and on to Grenada,
and I just
kept walking.
And it was snowing outside and I was poorly dressed,
I had no shoes, and
I just kept walking and walking and walking and walking,
and the rest is history.
