17 years old and without a clue on how to be a kid
Mommy thought I'd always had you right beside me through it all
But it's more like every blue you come around or even call
Y'all feel me? Like you know how trying to raise a child
And just a kid yourself but gotta be a woman now
Will I find a job? Will I graduate from school?
Will I have the time to do the things I used to do?
Going through so much all alone was hard
Morning sickness had me dizzy throwing up
My lord mama tried to warn me about growing up so fast
Be a child while you can because it sure won't last
I had to be the badass, hella flipping stuff
Cutting school and breaking curfew y'all just to lay up
Sure wish I woulda listened cause it really is tough
A single parent had a lesson yep he left me stuck
Body going through changes stretching out of proportion
Some days feeling so moody wishing I had chose abortion
But when it started moving we became one
The ultrasound had me glowing showing my little son
Thank god and please bless me and my unborn soldier
Always rubbing on my belly baby how I adored you
Didn't even have to sister up together
And there were pampers, clothes, and milk to buy
But I knew that I would find a way to make things right
Doing what I had to do to bring comfort to you

Go apply for welfare, go and sign for WIC
Doctor visits kept me scared because it was all new
But I kept on going cause it was best for you
Nine months I was stressing thinking about my life
Will I be a good mother, have I sacrificed
Enough to be touched by his heavenly hands
And even blessed to turn his child into a strong black man
I kept on praying even in the labor room
Feeling nothing but pain screaming my mother's name
And then all the pain ceased and turned to joy
When the doctors held up my beautiful little boy
We've been through a lot, seven years have gone by
I watched you growing when you took your first step
I cried and now I know you're on your way to being that real black man
Responsible, respectful because you understand
A young mother struggling how she placed two rows
So to the brothers hanging in I say much love goes to you
Cause just the little things you do
Helps a woman out a lot trying to raise her youth
And sisters hold on even when times are tough
