Here's a song that I've been associated with for a number of years now, and I think probably the reason that I like it so well is because the lyrics were written by the fabulous Johnny Mercer. It's called Midnight Sun. Your lips were like a red and ruby chalice, warmer than the summer nights. The clouds were like an alabaster palace, rising to a snowy height. Each star its own aurora borealis. Suddenly you held me tight, and I could see the midnight sun. I can't explain the silver rain that found me. Ah, was that a moonlit day? The music of the universe around me. Ah, was that a night in hell? And then your arms miraculously found me. Suddenly the sky turned red, and I could see the midnight sun. Was there ever such a night? It's a thrill I still don't quite believe. But after you were gone, there was still the stardust on my sleeve. The flame of it made winter to an ember, and the stars forget to shine. And we may see the meadow in December. I see white and crystal eyes. But oh, my darling, always I'll remember when your lips were close to mine, and I saw the midnight sun. Midnight sun, see a midnight sun above. Thank you.
