Long Neck with Jesus is, besides the performance of it, which is Andrew Hiron joins me andwe sing it as Billy Pilgrim, which means it's going to have a whole bunch of harmony init.Almost everything in it is harmonized, like a very Everly Brothers approach.I wrote it with Paul Overstreet and Marty, and my experience of writing songs with himis one where I'm a student. So I'm not the teacher, I'm very much the scribe, like I'm there to learn. And I think what's interesting about every time I get to write with him is that I learnsomething else about writing. And for him, he must think I'm some sort of strange kid because every single thing thathe says out loud I turn into a song somehow. And we were writing something else and he goes, and I was like, well, is there anythingthat you want to say today?Because we write very fast and it's stream of consciousness, and I hit record. And then we giggle and play something maybe a little bit, maybe twice, but that's it,and then we move on to the next thing. And he said, well, I got this idea, and he started to sing it.And I was just shocked because it almost came out fully formed, like the first bit of it.I didn't even get a word in edgewise until we got to the verse. And I couldn't figure out which was the verse and which was the chorus, and then I decidedthat he is so lauded and good at what he does that I shall not change it.So when Paul hears this, whether he thinks it's good or bad or right or wrong, he probablywill remember that this is how it happened, which I think is probably the most respectI could ever give any songwriter, especially a man who is in the Hall of Fame and is thisincredibly good at what he does.I also never thought that I would ever record this because I didn't think that I had itin me to find this sort of thread emotionally that I could really talk about it.Like, you know, my name's Christian with a K. Like, people ask me all the time, well, you're Christian?I'm like, my whole life, I'm like, yeah, it's in the name.Like, I can get away with not talking about my spiritualness very easily my whole life, and this is kind of the first walk into that moment. And it was encouraged by my singing partner, Andrew. He heard the song and was like, man, can we sing that one?And I was like, are you serious? He's like, oh.He goes, I just love the song and the sentiment's real and this is, he kept telling me thingsabout the song that I didn't even notice because I was there and I felt like it wasmy job to just carry it.It wasn't my job to do anything else to it.So I'm thankful to Paul and Marty Dobson and to Andrew Hira for this, because without youguys, I would have never sang this song.
