Anyway, well, I was trucking down old 75
when I spotted this chick who needed a ride,
and that's how this here story was begun.
I jumped right out and I helped her in.
She paid me back with a six grand,
and I said to myself,
son,
well, there were us two alone,
and me 500 miles from home,
and I thought,
Huff Daddy,
this is your lucky day.
I said, welcome aboard, you cute little thing.
I'm headed down to New Orleans, and I sure
hope that you'll go all the way.
Well, I looked to see if her face turned red,
and she slid over next to me and said,
big daddy,
you're the boss, and I'm with you.
So I rode on for a few more miles,
and I said to her with a wicked smile,
let's stop and eat at a motel dining room.
Keep on trucking when you see that lady thumbing.
Always pull that semi to the side.
Keep on trucking,
but stop and pick her up,
Lord.
Good buddy, always give that girl a ride.
Well, that little gal had expensive taste.
She ordered two big T-bone steaks,
and I sat and sipped a beer and watched her eat.
I could feel my wallet begin to hurt,
but she topped it off with a big dessert and a bottle of booze
to go, and it was all on me.
Well, I'd always dreamed of nights like this,
and heard tell they did exist,
but I didn't believe
the stories I'd been told.
But there I was with a piece of heaven,
just me and her
and them Seagram sevens,
one of them served up hot,
and the other cold.
Well, she had her shower and was smelling clean,
looked about the best I'd ever seen,
and she said, honey,
that road dust has to go.
So I showered and shaved as fast as I could,
rushed right out,
and there I stood in a room
all to myself, looking at a note.
It said thanks for the ride and dinner too,
and I'm taking along this bottle of booze.
You'll find your empty wallet on the bed.
I never had much luck in getting a ride without my feminine disguise,
and then that note,
it was signed,
Sincerely, Fred.
You better keep on trucking when you see that lady thumbing.
Don't ever pull that semi to the side.
Keep on trucking.
Keep that diesel humming,
or it may be you who gets taken for a ride.
