Hello,
this is Greg Laswell.
I'm here to discuss my record,
I Was Going to Be an Astronaut on .
The title is I Was Going to Be an Astronaut.
I'm doing this for .
Okay,
a lot of my songs have changed over the years.
I've performed them quite a bit differently
live than how they exist on the record.
Out of necessity, most of the time,
if there's a song on a record that has
bass and drums and a bunch of tracks,
and I'm doing a show with this,
when it's just me and piano,
then obviously the song changes on its own.
Other times, song meanings have
changed over the years,
and so I began to perform them differently,
just to match where the songs are at that particular time in my life.
And I kept getting feedback after shows,
either the night of the show or in
the following days online,
from people asking if I had recorded versions of these new versions,
of these live versions that I've been doing.
And so it got brought up enough times to where
I decided to do it.
And I did want to be careful.
I understand the relationship that people
have with songs that they connect to,
and so I didn't want to get in the way of that
by introducing these new versions.
I can see where that could go wrong.
But at the same time,
I did want to give it a try and put
these versions out into the world.
So I hope you enjoy them.
For good measure,
I did add one song that is kind of new.
It's old.
It got cut off my
first record,
and so I'm giving it its second chance.
It's called December, so it might be
a new one for some of you.
If you've never heard of me before,
it'll be new to you as
well.
And then I covered a song by Sparkle
Horse called It's a Wonderful Life,
and I
was listening to that record a lot when I first
started getting into recording and producing.
I kind of treated it as a benchmark of sorts,
and so I thought it was fitting to put a cover
of that song,
that particular song,
on this record just to kind of bring it full circle.
I'm a big fan of full circles.
So again,
I hope you enjoy it,
and if not,
I hope you find it at least interesting.
And thanks for listening.
