As we reflect back, it's been 12 years since she released her self-titled debut album, and some people described it as sort of a modern sound meets tradition. That's kind of what I tried to do. You know, I figured out at a young age that when you control what music you put out by writing it, then you get to control your own sound. And, you know, no one else can do that for you. No one else can take that sound away from you and replace it with something else. So, you know, this is the music that I've always loved to sing. And I think it's just different enough to where people have been able to relate to it. Well, I'd say the fact that people have been able to relate to her debut album is a bit of an understatement.
