Lacey K Booth just released her new project eight brand new songs if you've been following her since
American Idol I know you have been dying to get new music from Lacey it's here and she's telling
us all about these songs that she put out and this next song that we're going to play I know
that it is deeply personal and it took probably a lot of bravery to put this out into the world
for people to hear talk to me about if he would have stayed if he would have stayed is probably
one of the most personal songs I've ever written and it actually wasn't supposed to see the light
of day I originally wrote it as a poem that I didn't plan on sharing with anybody until one
night I had a right with James Slater and Carlo Colasaco and it was the evening right one of the
first evening rights I've ever had so it really set the mood and James had like seven pianos in
one room and so we wrote it on piano after
it I sent it to my manager Rachel and I said keep it in the vault I don't want anybody to
hear this it was just too vulnerable for me to share with anyone and it got slipped into a list
of songs that got sent to my whole team and I am very grateful for that because I feel like not
only was it therapeutic for me to write it I feel like it's going to be therapeutic for a lot of
people and a lot of people can relate and I hope that that's what they get out of it sadly I
think a lot of people will see themselves in this song and their relationship with either their dad
their mom or somebody but I did mention it's very personal so if you don't mind tell people why this
song is so emotional for you this song is vulnerable to me because it's a true story about
the relationship with me and my dad he was absent for a while he was just on the road and he was so
young whenever I was born so this song is about
me asking myself a bunch of questions of who I would be if he would have stayed around when I
was younger and I think it's questions that everybody has that their parents go through a
divorce or their dad or mom just wasn't around when they were younger and I hope whenever people
listen to this song they don't think I'm like oh feel sorry for me because that's not what I wanted
out of this it was just a therapy session that's what I do whenever I'm feeling big emotions as I
write music and I think it's gonna be a blessing to them
a lot of people hopefully it's sure a blessing to me it's called if he would have stayed new from
