The crowd gathered all round the hilltop to listen to Jesus proclaim,
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
and the sad, and the meek, and the blamed.
They shouted, Jesus, we love you!
And he smiled and looked back at them,
and for a moment he waited in silence.
Then this is what he said,
I love you more,
more than you'll ever know,
as far as love can go,
I love you more.
Nothing you do
can take me away from you,
just turn and I'm there for you,
just knock on the door.
The twelve gathered round him by firelight,
overwhelmed by the things he had done.
They jostled to stand right beside him,
to be close to the Holy One.
With joy they said, Jesus, we love you,
we'll follow wherever you lead.
Jesus looked to the stars in silence,
and this is what he said,
I love you more,
more
than you'll ever know,
as far as love can go,
I love you more.
Nothing you do can take me away from you,
just turn and I'm there for you,
just knock on the door.
The crowd gathered round Pontius Pilate,
who stood with a man at his side.
I can let this man go, he's done nothing.
But the crowd shouted back, Crucify!
They shouted again, Crucify him!
So they took him to hang on the cross,
and just a handful of followers were with him.
When dying he said to us all,
I love you more,
more than you'll ever know,
as far as love
can go,
I love you more.
Nothing you do
can take me away from you,
just turn and I'm there
for you,
just knock on the door.
