Once there was a man
living high up on a hill
Surrounded by riches from his labor and his skill
But
on this very morning before the sun will rise
He's sitting there frozen with tears in his eyes
You can hear him saying,
Oh Father,
dear Father
I know I've done wrong Please have mercy on me,
Father
Cause I want to come home
Well his wife's in her bedroom staring down a glass
And his kids haven't called him in a year and a half
Now listen to him say,
I believe I'll go back home
To my father,
I believe I'll go back home
So he took out on a journey,
across to his father's land
And he drank the pure water,
ran the soil through his hands
And he knelt down in the grass,
and he bowed his head down
He said, your son's coming home,
he was lost but now he's found
He's getting going,
and he said, Oh Father,
Oh Father I know I've done wrong
I can see your face,
and I've got to come home
And then he could hear his father say,
Dear son,
oh dear son
I'll be waiting at the door,
I want you to stand up before me
All I have is yours
I believe I'll go back home
Well I'm going on home now
Well
I once was lost
But now I'm found
