Mmm, I feel so good right now, I almost think I'm a holiday. You're a holiday? Why? Because holidays are special, and that's the way I feel. Extra special, extra good. Just the way you should. Which holiday do you like best? Oh, Christmas, New Year's, Valentine's Day, Easter the 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. All holidays are special, aren't they? Each in its own different way. What makes a holiday special, Rosemary? Well, let's see. Shall we start with Christmas? Of course. Hmm. What are you thinking about? I'm thinking about what makes Christmas especially wonderful to me. Frankincense and myrrh and gold, the story of Christmas lovingly told. Twinkling lights on a tall green tree are the things that make Christmas special to me. The crunchy sound of glistening snow, the smiling warmth of a fire's glow, holly and carols and people's good cheer are a wonderful part of Christmas each year. I like Santa Claus. I do too. And I like vacation. I'll bet you do. And stockings and candy and mistletoe. Does this have to end? I'm afraid so. New Year's Day is almost here. Time to begin a brand new year. Got to set that calendar right and start the year off fresh and bright. Right? Right. Resolutions. Resolutions. Well, here goes. I'll make my bed and brush my hair and try my best to think just where I left my shoes and pencil case and put them in the proper place. I'll go to bed when I am told and promise not to pout or scold when other children come to play and if I'm good in every way you might get a card on Valentine's Day. I will? Who from? The secret charm. What will he say? Happy Valentine's Day. But I won't know his name. That's the fun of the game. You have to guess who. Then what will I do? Send a valentine back to him from you. I could wait until Easter and blow him a kiss. Or send him a baby chick like this. He used to come each Easter time. Every year he'd be all mine. Soft and gentle and fluffy and yellow. My baby chick was such a sweet little fellow. I didn't mind if he was Marshmallow. Easter is warm and springtime sunny. Coloring eggs and the Easter bunny. Easter means a suit of clothes. Brand new shoes and a hat with bows. It's a very special holiday. I like it because it's close to May. Which leads to June and the 4th of July. All over the country flags will fly. While soldiers go parading by. And fireworks light up the sky. Hooray! It's time to celebrate. Our country's very own birthday. Hooray! Hooray! Hooray! Oooh! It's fall. Full of shivering air. The leaves ran away and left the trees bare. So you better watch out. You better beware. Goblins and witches are lurking out there. And 101 young ghosts can be seen. By the light of the moon on Halloween. Now jack-o'-lantern I don't see. Why you should sit and grin at me. If you refuse to let me by. I'll turn you into pumpkin pie. And then I'll eat you if I may. Probably on Thanksgiving Day. Of course I'll have some turkey too. Without it Thanksgiving wouldn't do. And one thing more I'll surely do. I'll not forget to say thank you. Look in the sky a great big star. Do you know what that means and where we are? It looks like the star of Bethlehem. And look there are the shepherds. I can see them. The holiday special's at the end of the line. We're back where we started at Christmas time. Now we've let each holiday have its day. Which was your favorite? Can you say? Well I'd say. Christmas, New Year's, Valentine's Day. Easter the 4th of July. Halloween, Thanksgiving too. And Christmas. Each one is so special in its own different way. That when you wake up on a holiday. The very first thing you're liable to say is. Hooray! Today's a holiday. It's a happy holiday. It's special. Well John Rogers. Did you like hearing about all the holidays? I like holidays alright. But do you know what I like even better? What could be better than a holiday? The seasons. You mean summer, spring, winter and fall? After all a holiday is just part of a season. I like the whole thing. I think you've got a point there. Which season do you like best John? Well let's see. I like winter for Christmas and sleigh riding and snow. I like summer for vacation and swimming and bug hunting. I like fall for Halloween and football and camping out. But best of all I like spring. And you know why? No, why? I like spring for collecting. I know what you mean. Spring is a marvelous time for getting together a good collection. It's also a marvelous time for spring cleaning. I do it every year. What kind of spring cleaning? What kind of a collection? Oh I have a pocket collection that no one knows about. And every year I give it a good spring cleaning. My pockets need a good spring cleaning. For weeks now I've really been meaning to turn those pockets inside out. Throw my winter collection out. I'll be kind of sorry to see you go. But out, out, out with the winter snow. Bubble gum wrapper, birthday snapper, water pistol, broken whistle, candy pill. Pretend dollar bill, paper clip train, linked in a chain. I open my pockets wide to spring. And all the surprises spring will bring. Assorted stones and tiny pine cones. Shapely leaves, all sizes and weaves. A roller skate key, a twig from a tree. Two or three feathers tied up together. Treasures of spring, I'll save you all till my new collection in the fall. That sounds like an interesting collection. Did you say you only had two collections a year? One in the spring and one in the fall. Now fall, that's the time of year I love. What do you like best about fall? Puddles. Puddles? Puddles. And when I say puddles, I mean puddles. Puddle, a puddle, a beautiful puddle, a beautiful puddle. A muddly puddle, a big beautiful muddly puddle. Oh, what'll I do? What'll I do? What'll I do? I could close my eyes and just walk by or jump right over if I try. I could, I suppose, walk around the outside. And then I could. Well, I simply had to decide. Well, I simply had to decide. Oh, a puddle, a puddle, a beautiful puddle, a beautiful puddle. A muddly puddle, a big beautiful muddly puddle. Oh, what'll I do? What'll I do? What'll I do? So here I am right in the middle. You can only do this when you're little. I had to do it, had to do it. Here's why. Why, why? It won't be here the next time I come by. Oh, a puddle, a puddle, a beautiful puddle, a beautiful puddle. A muddly puddle will love you till you're dry.
