I think in every artist's career, there are pivotal moments when you begin to discover
who you are as an artist.
And for people like Mike Eli, when you write a song that really begins to give you confidence
in who you are as a writer, that's a pretty significant milestone as well.
And that is what this next song did for Mike Eli.
It's called Highways and Broken Hearts.
It was off their album Level, one of the first albums they ever released.
And it had a very validating effect for Mike Eli, and he always hoped that it would have
the same impact on other people who heard Highways and Broken Hearts.
Highways and Broken Hearts is probably, there are moments when you feel like, hey, maybe
I might be good at this, or this might be something that I should keep doing.
That was kind of the first song where it's like, hey man, don't doubt yourself, because
you wrote something that you should be proud of.
And I think Highways and Broken Hearts was one of those songs that solidified my drive
for being a songwriter, and to know that what I have to say means something.
