On reprise, there is one cover song and it's Heroes, which of course was originally written
and recorded by David Bowie and Brian Eno. I would maintain that Heroes, their version,
is just one of the greatest songs and greatest recordings of all time. So then the question is,
why would I cover one of the greatest songs and greatest recordings of all time? And the reason
is because I love the song so much and I love David Bowie. He's my favorite musician of all time.
And also, as some of you might know, he and I were friends. And I've talked about this,
but I'll repeat myself because it's such a good story. There was one morning in 2001
where he came over to my apartment, David Bowie did, and he brought coffee and we sat on my sofa
and we played Heroes together. Just the two of us. We didn't record it. We didn't film it.
Just sitting on my couch playing Heroes. And it was such a profoundly special moment.
And so,
the version of Heroes with Mindy Jones singing that's on reprise is a testament to my friendship
with David, a tribute to the beauty of the song, but also sort of just a memory, a snapshot,
a musical snapshot of what it was like to sit on my sofa with David Bowie
playing what I think is the greatest song ever written.
