As I sat down one evening
I was in a small cafe
A seven foot ten inch waitress
And me these words did say
I see you are a lover
And not just a common bum
But nobody but a lover
Stirs his coffee with his thumb
My lover was a lover
There's none like him today
If you poured whiskey on it
He would eat a bale of hay
He never shaved his whiskers
From off of his head
From off of his horny hide
He drove the men with a hammer
And bit them off inside
Well my lover came to see me
It was on a freezing day
He held me in a fond embrace
Which broke three vertebrae
He kissed me before we parted
So hard that it broke my jaw
I could not speak to tell him
He forgot his Mackinac
I saw my lover leave
Slaughtering through the snow
Going bravely homeward
At fifty degrees below
But the weather tried to freeze him
Tried its level best
At a thousand degrees below zero
He buttoned up his hair
Well it froze clear through the china
Flows to the stars above
At two thousand degrees below zero
It froze my lover love
It's all my love
Love or die
With this cafe I come
And here I wait
Till someone
Stirs his coffee
With his thumb
