So the fifth song on reprise is Extreme Ways.
And Extreme Ways is originally from the album 18.
And when I wrote and recorded the album 18,
I was really ramping up my addiction.
You know, drinking lunatic amounts of alcohol
and taking tons of drugs and going out seven nights a week
and just living with this constant hangover sickness.
And so the song Extreme Ways was sort of about the dark side of that
because at the time I was having fun,
apart from the crippling hangovers and the anxiety and the depression.
But the song Extreme Ways has this cautionary quality.
So the version that's on reprise is actually quite a lot different
than the album version.
You know, the version that's on reprise is sort of a lament.
You know, very minimal.
Most of it's just a kick drum, a cello part, my guitar, and my vocals.
And because I wanted to really focus on that quality of, I don't know,
the only way I can describe it is nascent desperation.
