From the dawning of creation, will we ever learn the rules? Some men they are really smart, and some men they are fools. When the Lord created Adam, if the good book you believe, He gave him a partner, and her name was Eve. And together they both made a stand, East of Eden, beyond the promised land. And along came Cain and Abel, by Cain, Abel was slain. Later on there came a man, and Joseph was his name. Joseph loved his job, for the construction coming in, And the fruit of all his labour, gave him a sense of being free. And when the day was over, he wasn't one to roam, But stopped to have a few beers, on the long walk home. And in a bar, Joey met his Jane, And the smell of her perfume drove him insane. Beyond his better judgement, with his passion rising still, He took her back home, to his mansion on the hill. With Joe, son of Adam, stood Jane, daughter of Eve. She whispered, I'm here forever, and I'm never going to leave. And Joe was really happy, with a woman by his side. When a child come along, he never took her as a bride. Marriage, it was never on Joe's mind. He never took, with the ties that bind. And he just kept on working, and living just the same. When Jane signed her birth form, he did not bear Joe's name. And when Jane come home from work, she said you gotta leave. Joe said that you were joking, this is my house I believe. A fierce row broke between them, things were thrown, and names were called. And in the midst of battle, the police they were called. And a police woman said, you gotta go. And a band of grillers, she had with her in tow. And Joe, he wasn't leaving, home without a fight. When he finally overpowered him, in a cell he spent the night. They brought him up to court, from the darkest depth of hell. To meet a judge and jury, and the witnesses as well. The first time in his life, he felt all alone. As the older it was read out, to leave the family home. And Jane stood there and smiled sarcastically. As she was granted exclusive custody. Stripped of all his assets, maintenance was set aside. And the right to see his child, all access is denied. How many more children, will never know a father's love. How many more will never seek, guidance from above. How many more will never know, the pleasures that are free. Like the sound of the birds singing, and the sunset on the sea. Jane is still out clubbing through the years. Joe's face is still soaked in whiskey tears. And their only child, is looking for a hand. In a place called East of Eden, beyond the promised land.
