All right, we have come to the final song on Brett Young's Ticket to LA album. And let me just say
this up front, spoiler alert, Brett's about to tell you something about this song. If you have
not heard Don't Wanna Write This Song yet, you may want to listen to the song first and then come
back and listen to this part of the special. Because when I heard him talking about this,
I was devastated. I Don't Wanna Write This Song was an attempt at having Mercy 2.0 on the second
record. We didn't know that she was going to die in the song until after we wrote it a different
way and then revisited the third verse. It's the first song we've ever written where we kill the
girl off in the song. But as we were listening to it as a breakup song, it just seemed like it
was missing something. And so three writers who have never lost a spouse, we kind of made ourselves
cry too. So I hope there are people out there that it speaks to. It's one of my favorites on
the record. It is an absolutely beautiful song. But I have to say in some ways, I hope people
can't relate to this song because it is absolutely heartbreaking.
Although I know it's going to touch a lot of people. This is called Don't Wanna Write This
Song. You might want to get a tissue. It's off of Brett Young's Ticket to LA album on Big Machine
Radio.
