The letter's gone,
I checked last night I tore the back and flashlight light
It used to rest beneath the flat Now only lint and folded mat
But somehow still I see each line The way I curved your name,
not mine
The part that said,
I hope you see Still plays inside,
repeatedly
Forgot the page,
remembered you Not the ink,
but what felt true
The way it paused on every line Like I was writing for all time
It ended with, just maybe still
I spelled out stay,
but crossed it twice Then drew a smile,
then thought too nice
Then told the truth in lowercase Afraid of giving it a face
You'll never find the paper note But somewhere in the words I wrote
You might recall the way I stare The way I almost always care
Forgot the page,
remembered you Not the ink,
but what felt true
The way it paused on every line Like I was writing for all time
