Ybor City is right on the edge of the black neighborhood.
It's literally on the other side of the tracks.
The store was near the main street in Ybor City.
And there was a sandwich shop around the corner.
And everybody knew you.
Because you were really the only young boy.
Because of the nature of the neighborhood, which was pretty rough.
It wasn't a place you walked around late at night.
Everybody kind of protected you.
It was the tower of House Jonah.
Everybody knew you. Everywhere you went.
And I was proud of that.
It was one of the reasons why, when your mom and I got a divorce,
they wouldn't let you stay with me.
Because they felt that Ybor City was an unfit place to raise you.
But I'll tell you, you had more of an exposure to more different kinds of people
and lifestyles and respect for people.
Different kinds of people than anybody ever would have.
And that's what was important.
To love people.
Everybody has something special to give.
I used to tell you, oh, you can always get money.
But friends and people are friends you haven't met yet.
People are friends you haven't met yet.
