He was born in 1951
Named for his father, he was their first son
Though I never met him face to face
It's like he's always been around here in some way
There ain't a whole lot I know about this man
Just a few things I heard now and then
Today I'm finally gonna get a chance to meet him
Born along Blackwall,
cousin Paul
Seen his picture in my grandma's room With
a girl he married right out of high school
In their eyes you can see their
dreams Start a life and raise a family
They had to wait and put it all on hold
Till he served his country and came back home
But she didn't know she'd only see him again
On along Blackwall,
cousin Paul
And on that long Blackwall There's 50,000 names
Of 50,000 families That never were the same
And there's my cousin Paul And I'm so proud to know
This memory lives on
Forever on that stone
Another soldier came back home today
Way too young to be set in his grave
And when a mother's tear falls on that neatly folded flag
I think of cousin Paul And that long Blackwall
Another brave one falls
Like cousin Paul
