I walk down while the town slept
The sand still holds the shape of yesterday
No one here but the goals in me
Pale light,
not quite sun
I sit and watch the colour change From grey
to something softer
The water doesn't care I'm here It just keeps moving in
Before footprints
Before voices
Before the day
becomes a day
There's a shell half buried near my hand
I leave it where it is
The tide will take it or it won't
Nothing asks me what I think
I used to want this feeling to last
Now I know it can't
The first car pulls into the lot behind me
Someone's dog already parking
I don't move yet
The sun is almost
real now
Painting
everything
the way it should look
The way it looked before I came
Before footprints
Before voices
Before the day
becomes a day
Watch the empty turn to full
The mistless
Someone's walking toward the shore
