Of all your albums, do you have a favorite? Oh, no, not really. I mean, I haven't listened to them for a long time. You know who's listened to them? This girl. But I remember Hajira was a favorite of mine for a while. I like the writing on it, you know. And I like the scenes that it brought up in terms of memories. I drove back from New York. I drove out to the East Coast with a couple of fellas, and at the beginning of the trip, their car broke down, so I bought a Mercedes in San Francisco. And it kept stalling all the way across the country, too. And it turns out that it was a secondhand one. It was that particular year, the fan, you know, the car would overheat. It was a flaw in the model. And I drove back across the country by myself. I had to deliver it back home, you know, and I didn't have a driver's license. So I had to tailgate on truckers, you know. They always signal when there's cops ahead, when they flash their lights and things, you know. And I wrote a lot of songs. The whole Hajir album was based on that particular journey, because Hajir is an Arab word that meant Mohammed leaving Mecca, so leaving the dream, no blame. It's like the opposite of AWOL. It's running away from something, but without blame, you know, with honor. So that's what it means. Thank you. It's Blake Mills, Taylor Goldsmith. I was driving across the burning desert When I spotted six jet planes Leaving six white paper trails Across the bleak terrain It was the hexagram of the heavens It was the strings of my guitar Amelia, Amelia It was just a false alarm guitar solo The drone of flying engines Is a song so wild and blue It scrambles time and seasons If it gets through to you Then your life becomes a travelogue Full of picture postcard charms Amelia, it was just a false alarm guitar solo People tell you where they're going They'll tell you where to go But till you get there Yourself, you'll never really know And we'll still have a million paradise Others just come tomorrow Amelia, it was just a false alarm guitar solo I wish that he was here tonight It's so hard to obey his sad request Of me to kindly stay away So this is how I have the hurt As the road leads cursed and shunned I tell Amelia It was just a false alarm The ghost of aviation She was swallowed up by the sky And by the sea Like me, she had a dream to fly Like Icarus ascending On beautiful foolish arms Oh, Amelia It was just a false alarm guitar solo Maybe I've never really loved I guess that is the truth I spent my whole life In clouds at icy altitudes And looking down on everything I crashed into his arms Oh, Amelia It was just a false alarm guitar solo I pulled into the cactus tree motel Showered of the dust And I slept on the strange pillows Of my wanderlust I dreamed of 747s Over geometric farms Dreams, Amelia Dreams and false alarms Dreams and false alarms cheers & applause
