I think it's hard to decide to be political when you're writing. I think for me, there were a couple political songs on my third record because of the time. It was during 2006 and it was right in the middle of a really bad political time and the war and a lot of frustration on a lot of people's parts with the system. It's just kind of what came out. I didn't really intend to do it. My Dear Country is more specific to the 2004 election, which I think devastated a lot of people. I think I'm not the most vocally political person and certainly you don't want to make anybody mad. I got a lot of claps for those songs when we played them live and I think I got a couple nasty letters too. I respect other people's opinions, but it's just kind of what came out when I was writing for that record.
